Maharaja of Mayurbhanj Sri Baidyanath Bhanjdeo had constructed Jagannath temple of Baripada in 1575 when there was nither Lord Jagannat or no worshipper at puri . A invader KALA PAHADA Burnt three idol of jagannath temple at shore of Ganga destroyed the temple by igniting fire with char-coal and dry-cowdung additionally he destroyed other famous temples of odisha. Further he also killed thousands of brahmins and worker of the Jagannath temple in 1568. After that the temple was closed for 12 years due to muslim ruler. The grand mother namely’MANATH‘ of Baidyanath Bhanjdeo who was the princess of Gajapati Utkala . She inspired ruler of Mayurbhanj for construction of a Jagannath Temple at Baripada.
Maharajeswari Maharani Sumitra Bhanjdeo built KICHAKESWARI TEMPLE in 1803 during sifting of Capital of Mayurbhanj from Haripur to Baripada. She constructed the temple at north gate of Palace.

HISTORY OF KICHEKESWARI TEMPLE KHICHING
Mayurbhanj Maharaja Roy Bhanja built KICHAKESWARI TEMPLE in 10th century . At that time the Khiching kotta was the capital of Mayurbhanj state. The Goddess name was KHICHINGE-SWARI. The temple was made of granite stone. But periodically the original temple destroyed several times by attack of invaders on Khiching kotta. Due to attack on capital Khiching kotta, the capital sifted to Baripada . The Khiching kotta was left out for 500 years and remained in unmaned area turned into jungle. After 500 years in 1934 Maharaja of Mayurbhanj Pratap Chandra Bhanjdeo cleaned the jungle, found ruined temple of Khichinge-swari. He renovated the temple and inagurated the temple in1942 .
