Haripur was the Capital of Mayurbhanj from 1630 to 1803. Mayurbhanj Maharaja Harihara Bhanja sifted Capital from Bripada to Haripur in 1630 due to frquently attack of Afgan invaders. In 1803 Marathas attack on Haripur. They destroyed the capitals and smashed to ground. Only the Rasikaroy temple & Jagannath temple remain exist till now as a dumb witness.

Maharaja Krushna Bhanjdeo had built RASHIKA ROY TEMPLE of Haripur in 1657. The entire temple is made of Terra-cotta.
The Amarda airstrip has played a vital role in the defence of India during the second World War. It came into existence during the war as a forward airfield against the Japanese conquest of Burma.Now this airstrip is known as the Rasgovindpur Airstrip. Even today it is the biggest air complex of the continent. The total runways, taxiways, aprons, etc were more than 60 kms. The longest runway in Asia, measuring over 3.5 km, this large strip served its purpose well as a landing ground for planes and also as a training space for special bombing missions. The Amarda airstrip spreads across an area of nearly 900 acres.

Maharajeswari Maharani Sumitra Bhanjdeo had been built Mayurbhanj PALACE in 1804 . After Maratha attack during 1803 the capital of Mayurbhanj State shifted from Haripur to Baripada.
